Naturally.
Our solar farm in Lehchevo provides clean, decentralized energy to the national grid, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and strengthening energy security for Northern Bulgaria.
Bulgaria remains one of the most carbon-intensive economies in the European Union. A large portion of our electricity still comes from burning low-grade lignite coal. This dependency creates a cycle of high emissions that complicates our national climate targets and keeps the country tied to outdated, heavy-polluting technology.
The existing national energy infrastructure was designed for centralized power plants, not the dynamic nature of modern life. As demand fluctuates and old plants face maintenance shutdowns, the grid becomes strained. Without decentralized solar inputs to provide local support, the system remains fragile and prone to price spikes.
Currently, Bulgaria’s energy security is often at the mercy of external fuel prices and regional geopolitical shifts. Importing energy or the raw materials to create it leaves the domestic market vulnerable. To achieve true sovereignty, we must transition to harvesting the natural resources available right here in the Montana region.
EU Green Deal
This farm is a practical step toward meeting Bulgaria’s binding commitment to the European Union. By 2030, our nation must ensure that at least 34.48% of its gross final energy consumption comes from renewable sources. We are moving away from the high-carbon energy of the past and building the infrastructure required for the EU’s "Fit for 55" goal, which aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 55% within this decade.
By generating clean energy here in Lehchevo, we directly support the REPowerEU initiative. This plan is designed to end Europe's dependence on imported fossil fuels while accelerating the transition to a sustainable power grid. Every megawatt produced on this site is a megawatt that does not have to be generated by burning coal or imported gas.
